Plan It Like an Engineer
A hands-on careers workshop where pupils plan a real project the way the UK's biggest infrastructure programmes do. Engineering and construction need new talent, yet many young people, especially girls, never meet someone who plans or builds the infrastructure around them.
What pupils do
Every session follows the same format and outcomes, so schools get a consistent experience and sponsors get comparable results.
The big story
10 MINFrom "you should be a doctor" to planning London Underground upgrades. A quick quiz: how many tasks are in the plan to modernise four Tube lines?
Break it down
20 MINTeams get a real project brief and split it into task cards: how to eat an elephant, one bite at a time.
Put it in order
20 MINTeams sequence their cards, find the critical path, then deal with a curveball: "your supplier is two weeks late".
Meet the engineers
15 MINPupils meet an engineering professional in person, online or hybrid, explore real career road maps and ask their own questions, supported by short recorded interviews.
Plan your own goal
25 MINEach pupil plans a personal goal like a project, from steps and critical path to risks, and leaves with their own plan.
Safeguarding comes first
The host school's safeguarding procedures always take priority over ours. A member of school staff is present throughout every session.
- DBS-checked lead facilitator and volunteer STEM Ambassador
- Safeguarding policy and session risk assessment shared with every school
- All volunteers briefed on our code of conduct before attending
- Anonymous pupil surveys; photos only with school consent
"The pupils were buzzing about it afterwards, they loved it when you spoke about your own company and were definitely inspired."
Teacher, all-girls secondary school, after a Year 8 talk to 120 pupils (October 2026)Social value pupils remember, with evidence you can report
Contractors and suppliers commit to skills, early-careers and diversity outcomes in their contracts. Delivering them well takes time: finding schools, designing content, organising staff and collecting evidence. Sponsor the programme in schools near your projects. We run it, your people take part, and you get the evidence.
Turnkey delivery
We approach and liaise with schools near your sites, and design and deliver every session.
Your people involved
Your engineers meet pupils in person, online or hybrid, subject to their availability, and can feature in recorded interviews. Volunteering hours are logged.
Your brand in the room
Co-branded workbooks and certificates, and named recognition with each school.
An evidence pack
Attendance, pupil survey results before and after, staff hours, a case study and consented photos, set out against your commitments.
Pilot
One school, one day, up to 3 sessions (around 90 pupils).
Term programme
Three schools across one term, with a combined impact report.
Annual programme
Schools around your project locations, including a sixth-form version on routes into work.
Designed to support
From agreement to impact report in 8 to 10 weeks
Schools plan their terms ahead, so a pilot takes about 8 to 10 weeks from sponsor agreement to impact report.
